According to the American Trucking Association, the trucking industry, which is responsible for moving over 70% of all freight, is valued at over $600-billion-dollars. One of the companies that managed to get their fair share of this lucrative market is Custom Companies. If you haven’t heard of them, they are an Illinois-based transportation and logistics company, headed by former Marine reservist, Perry Mandera. The company, which is a Fortune 100 Corporation, boasts $200 million in annual revenue and has a workforce of several hundred employees, has gained a reputation for excellence under Mandera’s leadership. In fact, many of the company’s clients have cited Custom Companies’ “full-service” as the basis for entrusting them with their shipments. What doe full-service entail? Custom Companies offer an array of shipping services to their clients including LTL and Truckload options, as well as Logistic Products and Services like Custom Bonded Warehousing and distribution sites (AliveNewspaper).

In addition being a leader in the trucking industry, Custom Companies is also very involved in the community. Also, the trucking company has gained a reputation for working with organizations that provide winter coats for needy children.

Mandera, who began his career at the age of 23, believes that mentoring and providing needed resources to young children will positively impact the community; in fact, he credits the Marine Corps for helping him develop the skills that have made him successful today. As a result, Mandera revels in any opportunity that allows him and his company to make a difference. Before being honorably discharged, Mandera worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Marine Corps’ Motor pool; after his discharge, he parlayed that knowledge into establishing his first business, in 1980. After selling his business, Mandera launched Custom Companies in 1986, which continues to be one of the most sought-after trucking companies in Illinois, today. In fact, the company has been so successful, that Perry Mandera was named Top 100 American Transportation Executives by the ITA (Illinois Transportation Association), in 2000.
